Adopted dog: how to support their first days at home

Adopting is a gift, but the first days can be overwhelming for the dog.

The 3-3-3 guideline

• 3 days: overwhelmed, may not eat or hide.
• 3 weeks: learning routines, showing personality.
• 3 months: feeling at home.

First days

1. Calm and routine.
2. A safe refuge of their own.
3. Let them approach you.
4. Short sniffing walks with a well-fitted harness and fixed leash.
5. No punishment: accidents are normal.
